- Part 1: How I spent less than SGD 600 (all-in) in Taiwan for 8 days!
- Part2: Places to visit in Taichung for 1 and a half days!
Alice is Coming @ Xi Men Ding
Had brunch at the Alice in Wonderland Cafe. They even have huge tea cup tables for groups! What I really loved about Taiwan is that their character themed cafes are not overpriced like in Singapore!
I ordered the curry omurice set with bubble tea and the total bill was only $8 !! Even a plate of katsu curry rice at the My Melody Cafe Singapore costs about $20?
Xi Men Ding
The shopping district in Taipei! There are anime advertisements plastered all over the buildings and it reminds me of Akiharaba in Tokyo! Over here, you can find lots of market food and souvenirs!
I tried the unique layered tea from Dream Colour! They have a wide range of flavours that changes colours when you shake them!
They also have some pretty cool graffiti work further down too!
Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei
Check out these free outdoor art installations leading to the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei located near Zhongshan Station!
Huashan 1914 Creative Park
This hipster art park is free to enter and here you can find many quirky and eccentric souvenirs and exhibits! They usually have events and activities at this cultural space on weekends, so be sure to keep yourself updated on the current events before you visit!
If you have time, don’t forget to visit The Hello Kitty Cafe and Ikea House! It is just around the corner!
Jiufen & Shifen
It was raining season when we visited and there were barely any shelters in the small alleys! We left early as it was really hard to walk with our umbrellas especially with the huge crowd!
Tried some of the highly recommended foods and my favourite was the Ah Gan taro balls!
Left after an hour and took a quick stopover to see the Golden Waterfall!
When at Shifen, you cannot miss the Pingxi Sky Lantern Experience! For only 150NTD-200NTD per paper lantern, you can write your wishes and send it to heaven!
Here’s a tip: before releasing your lanterns, get somebody else to take a video for you with another device as the shop assistant will only help you to take pictures!
After the lantern activity, I then took an hour’s train ride back to Taipei while my friends travelled to Tai Chung!
Visit Taipei 101
This building shouldn’t be a secret to anyone! If it’s your first time here, be sure to visit the iconic Taipei 101 and also view it from the Maokong Gondola! It was once the tallest building in the world until Burj Khalifa took it’s title in 2010.
I didn’t go up to the Taipei 101 Observatory because I wanted to try to get to the Starbucks located on the 35th floor but failed to find the entrance! However, just viewing it from below and entering was good enough for me!
Get a Caricature at ATT4FUN!
Chanced upon Julia, a caricature artist. She was sitting outside the mall, ATT4FUN and she caught my attention! Her work reminded me of those old school shoujo manga! It had that feminine and soft feel! I thought to myself that I had to get one! I only paid SGD18 and she drew my golden retriever in as well.
Julia was so friendly and we had such an enjoyable time talking (along with other clients). I think we chatted for about an hour?!
Commune A7 (Re-opening in 2020)
Commune A7 is a hipster outdoor food market with container stores. Located opposite ATT4FUN, this youngsters hangout spot offers loads of good photo opportunities & overpriced food.
Unfortunately, this place is currently under renovation to make way for Taipei Sky Tower. It will be reopened in 2020!
Take a stroll along Dan Sui’s old street while eating some local street food! There are also some old school arcades by the wharf!
Reaching Tamsui can be awhile if you are coming from the city centre as it is located in New Taipei City.
Yehliu Geo Park
After visiting Tamsui, I took an hour’s bus ride to Yehliu Geopark to see the Queen’s head rock. The bus ride scenery was undeniably beautiful! I saw some black rock beaches along the way but was not able to figure out where the place was! However, there was some beautiful coastline surrounding the park!
Dinners @ Night Markets!
What’s a trip to Taiwan if you didn’t pig out at night markets? I only managed to visit Shilin and Tonghua!
I’m not really a foodie but I’d say to get anything (or everything) that entices you!
